"Sunflower Children" National Public Welfare Science Tour
Every year on February 15th, there is an awareness campaign for International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) around the world. As China's first public interest organization focusing on children's cancer, "Sunflower Children" held the "International Children's Cancer Day" science popular forum and "professional ignite hope" national public interest science popular science tour yesterday (February 15).
Speakers participating in this tour
The guest speakers who participated in this tour are: Wang Huanmin, director of the Department of Oncology, Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University; Zhang Weiling, chief physician of Pediatrics, Beijing Tongren Hospital, Capital Medical University; Yang Wei, deputy director of Oncology Surgery, Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University Sun Lingxia, a pediatric clinical nutritionist at Hopkins Hospital in the United States, and co-founder of Shiyu Children's Charity Foundation, and also the sponsor of the Sunflower Children's Charity Project.
This event also received strong support from the Pediatric Oncology Committee of the Chinese Research Hospital Association and the Cancer Prevention Science Popularization Committee of the China Anti-Cancer Association!
At the same time, Sunflower Children's joint Sogou search presented the children's anti-cancer encyclopedia for children's families. A search for "children's tumor" and "children's cancer" will immediately go to the area and present you with a wealth of anti-cancer encyclopedia knowledge.
At 1 pm, the event started on time. This event is only open to family members of children, and there are no seats on the scene.
First of all, Prof. Zhixiu Yi, the chairman of the Cancer Prevention Science Popularization Committee of the China Anti-Cancer Association, and a well-known expert in thoracic surgery in China, gave a speech on the popular science lecture.
Professor Zhi first stated that the scientific popularization of childhood tumors in China has been relatively blank for decades, and I am glad that there is a public scientific popularization platform such as "Sunflower Children", which is dedicated to the dissemination of scientific information for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancer. He also mentioned that many children have been diagnosed early and cured clinically. The Cancer Prevention Science Popularization Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association plans to build a wider platform this year. It will work with the media to publicize popular science and timely correct rumors about cancer. I also look forward to the "Sunflower Children" national public interest science popularization tour to penetrate more cities as soon as possible to benefit more parents. In the end, Professor Zhi extended encouragement to the parents on the spot: Facing childhood cancer calmly and treating children cancer scientifically!
The first guest speaker was Li Zhizhong (Pineapple), the initiator of the Sunflower Children charity project and co-founder of Shenzhen Shiyu Children's Charity Foundation. As a scientist who has worked for American pharmaceutical companies for many years, he shared with us the cutting-edge information on new drug research in childhood cancer. He mentioned: In the history of the world, only four new drugs have been developed separately for the childhood cancer population. Why? The main reason is that European and American patients are few and scattered. Children's cancer basic and clinical research is seriously inadequate, making the path of global new drug development slowly moving forward!
Dr. Li Zhizhong also mentioned that Sunflower Children and Shanghai Liwen-Promeg Laboratories are currently testing for family hereditary brain tumors in children. At present, more than 60 cases have been completed, of which 2 cases are positive for MSI-H, and we will continue to complete 200 cases. This is currently the largest child tumor MSI / dMMR public welfare test plan.
At the same time, Dr. Li Zhizhong also shared the development plan of "Sunflower Children" with the guests and parents of the children. He will serve the children's families for a long time, and do a good job of family, government, clinical and scientific links. The road seeks benefits!
Next, Doctor Wang Huanmin, director of the Department of Oncology, Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University, came on stage. Director Wang has been working with solid tumors in children for more than 30 years. He is the chairman of the CRHA-COC Committee of the Chinese Research Hospital Association and the chairman of the Oncology Group of the Pediatric Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. Early diagnosis and early treatment of tumor.
Director Wang first introduced the current situation of childhood tumors in China. The incidence rate in China is increasing significantly at a rate of 2.8% per year, only 1.2% in the United States, 0.05% in Japan, and less than 1% in Europe. (Data source: China Cancer Registry Annual Report 》), Malignant tumors are the second leading cause of child death in China.
So what can we do from the theme of "early diagnosis and early treatment"? Director Wang said that first, through science education, do a good home self-examination. Children's tumors will quietly invade, but the cure rate of children's tumors is higher than that of adult tumors, and children's tumors can survive for a long time. Secondly, to establish a basic health service system and child health care, it is recommended to perform regular whole-body ultrasound examinations of children every 1-2 years. Thirdly, establish a good diagnosis and treatment system, combined with advanced foreign experience and domestic actual conditions, carry out detailed planning and implementation of graded diagnosis and treatment.
In the end, Director Wang said that at present, good experience has been achieved in the treatment of children with advanced tumors and huge tumors. In the future, early treatment through early diagnosis will definitely greatly improve the treatment of childhood tumors.
Zhang Weiling, chief physician of Pediatrics of Beijing Tongren Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University, has been engaged in pediatric hematological tumor clinical and research work for 26 years. The subject of her speech was: Treatment of common solid tumors in children. Director Zhang mentioned that currently two thirds of malignant tumors are solid tumors and the remaining one third are leukemias. At present, the efficacy of domestic childhood leukemia has been greatly improved, and the efficacy of standard-risk lymphocytic leukemia has reached 80% -90%. However, at present, children with malignant solid tumors, especially high-risk malignant solid tumors, such as stage IV NB, have a 5-year survival rate well below 50%. Director Zhang introduced that the treatment of childhood solid tumors can be divided into chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, surgery and targeted therapy. Next, Director Zhang introduced the diseases such as neuroblastoma, hepatoblastoma, nephroblastoma, and rhabdomyosarcoma in detail, and gave a detailed introduction and analysis, and answered many questions from parents.
The next guest speaker is Sun Lingxia, a registered dietitian (RD) in the United States. As a former clinical nutritionist at the Children's Medical Center of Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States, Mr. Sun has many years of experience in interventional nutrition support for children with severe illness, cancer, and beam concentrators. The topic of Mr. Sun's speech is: Nutritional care for children with cancer.
Teacher Sun first mentioned that the nutritional problems of children with cancer are concentrated in three aspects: the need to grow older, the eating disorder during the treatment period, and the increase in the amount of nutrition during the treatment period. So what do parents need to do when cooperating with a team of professional doctors? Before treatment, consult a doctor or clinical nutritionist to understand the effects of disease and treatment on diet nutrition. In the treatment, pay attention to the child's dietary intake and weight change, consult a doctor and clinical nutritionist in a timely manner, cooperate with the treatment, and conduct nutrition intervention in a timely manner. Dr. Sun emphasized that after the treatment, if possible, follow up with the clinical nutritionist regularly to help the child develop healthy living habits, healthy diet and reasonable exercise.
It can be seen that the clinical nutritionist plays a very important role in the entire treatment stage of the child!
Yang Wei, deputy chief physician of the Department of Oncology Surgery, Beijing Children's Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University, visited the St. Jude Children's Tumor Hospital in the United States and Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital in New York as a visiting scholar in 2012 and 2015. The theme of Dr. Yang Wei's speech was: characteristics of solid tumors in children and a multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment model.
He mentioned that children's solid tumors are prevalent in two age groups, germ cell tumors, blastomas and vasculature tumors are high in the age of three, and soft tissue tumors, bone tumors and hematological tumors are high in the age of 10. Combined with the multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment model (MDT), it can not only remove lesions and save lives, but also improve prognosis and ensure quality of life. In addition to oncology, imaging, laboratory, pathology, and then including nursing, pharmacology, and support and care of various social teams, children's tumors can achieve an ideal prognosis.
Doctor Yang also mentioned that China's current understanding of the occurrence, development, and outcome of tumors is still at a relatively early stage. With the continuous improvement of medical standards, it will definitely promote the continuous improvement of the comprehensive treatment model for childhood tumors.
The event came to an end in applause and lively discussions, and parents expressed their interest. "Sunflower Children" hopes that through such an authoritative, professional, and transparent national public science popularization tour, parents will be able to correctly understand child cancer, actively cooperate with doctors to allow children to receive scientific and standardized treatment and follow-up, and help improve the prognosis and long-term quality of life of children.
Don't worry if you are still interested in the content of the expert speech. From next week, we will continue to present the video content of this tour on the "Sunflower Children" all-media platform, and look forward to it.
do you know?
Every year, nearly 20,000 children in China leave the world due to cancer ... The number of children with leukemia in China each year is the highest, accounting for one third of all children.
The other two thirds come from other malignant solid tumors, including: retinoblastoma, medulloblastoma, nephroblastoma, blastoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, osteosarcoma, etc., including inflammation that we have hardly heard of Myofibroblastoma, pheochromocytoma, and paraganglioma.
"Child cancer" has become the second biggest killer after accidental death of children. Every child is trying their best to survive, but the new medicine has been delayed. Every parent is desperately looking for help, but they frequently fall into scams.
Lonelyness and lies are more desperate than the disease itself ...
"Sunflower Children" is a public welfare project initiated by Dr. Li Zhizhong (Pineapple), a well-known cancer research expert in the United States. It focuses on children's cancer groups and is committed to using science to change the fate of children.
We hope that through the three major sections of science popularization, scientific research, and social work, we will make the society aware of childhood cancer, allow children to get the best treatment, make efficient use of medical economic resources, and let new therapies change the fate of families. We need to bridge the information gap between China and the United States, and between other Chinese cities and first-tier cities.
Childhood cancer is a rare disease that requires everyone to work together. "Sunflower Children" is willing to build a professional platform to bring together elites, so that each child is no longer delayed, and each parent is no longer confused and panic.
